ⅠPacking for Your Trip
Travel light. Most daily necessities can be easily purchased in convenience stores, supermarkets and shopping malls in Shanghai. We recommend that you purchase your daily necessities in Shanghai after you have settled in, as you will then have a better idea of what you actually need.(BTW, we ISO have arranged one IKEA shopping day for our new students)
Here are some recommended interactive websites that can help you with preparing your packing list:www.travellerspoint.com/packing-list.cfm
If possible, do consider packing with you a towel and a set of sheets from home. You might need them to “settle-down” with on the day you arrive in Shanghai.
We strongly suggest that students bring along the things that will make them you feel at home, such as posters, photos and cultural items from your country. These momentos from home may help you feel comfortable in Shanghai and also minimize cultural shocks as well as homesickness.

Ⅴ VISA
Important: The Student Visa / X Visa will is only be valid for 30 days after your arrival. You must apply for a Residence Permit within these 30 days in order to obtain a legal status in China at Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau (MPSB).; you would be otherwise considered staying illegally and heavily fined.
International Students who will be studying in China for more than 6 months are required to obtain a Student Visa, also termed known as ‘X' Visa.
You are discouraged from arriving in China in a head of time due to the short time limit of your visa. Furthermore, you are not eligible to apply for a Residence Permit until you are a registered student of USST, after the day of registration.
It is not advisable to arrive way before the day of registration since you will not be able to apply for a Residence Permit prior to registration.

Important: Once you arrive in Shanghai, you must ensure the that USST has your current address at all times. If, for any reason, MPSB Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau wishes to contact you they will rely on the address the university has for you.
