In order to provide better health service to international students, the USST’s trial regulation of general outpatient, emergency treatment and comprehensive insurance for international students is enacted according to relevant Chinese government regulations and rules of USST’s medical treatment expense reimbursement policy.
Scope of Application
1. During their study period at USST, international students who enjoy same outpatient public health service as Chinese students if they get medical treatment from USST clinic include: Chinese government scholarship students, Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship students and commoners;
During their study period at USST, the international students who will enjoy same outpatient public health service as Chinese students if they need see a doctor outside of campus include: Chinese government scholarship students.
During their study period at USST, non-diploma international students will undertake all outpatient medical expenses.
2. Comprehensive insurance covering insurance liabilities of death, accidental disability, medical treatment for accidental injury and hospitalization medical treatment insurance is included in Chinese government scholarship, whereas students financed otherwise have to purchase the insurance on their own account.
General Outpatient Treatment and Emergency Treatment for International Students
1.
Chinese government scholarship studentsregistration fee of ¥1, and 10% of the total medical expenses.
If the students need receive medical treatment from hospital outside of campus, they should get approval from the doctor of USST clinic and should bring enough cash to the designated hospital, and pay medical expenses on account.
In case of emergency treatment, no approval should be obtained in advance. The students can go to any public hospital in mainland China (except high consumption foreign guest clinic and on-demand ward). The registration fee, 20% of medical expenses and unreasonable self pay items should be undertaken by the students, and the rest will be reimbursed after review by the USST clinic and ISO. The students should show the student card and valid medication treatment materials, such as, the copies of medical record, original receipts and original list of expenses.

Note:
(1) The designated hospital is usually Xinhua Hospital.
(2)For having a tooth filled, having a tooth stopped, exelcymosis, getting the right lenses for the eyeglasses, parturition, induced abortion, correction physical defects, buying nutritious tonic and other expenses beyond public medical service limitation, as well as the expense of treating chronic disease which the students suffered before their buying the insurance should be undertaken by themselves; Any medical treatment expense relevant to injury or death from the break of Chinese law and university rules and disciplines will be undertaken by the students themselves.
If the students go to hospitals located in region outside of mainland China, medical expenses should be paid at their own expense.
2. Commoners and Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship students
Students under this category can make their own decisions on whether to see a doctor on or outside of campus. If the students will go to see a doctor at USST clinic with E-campus card, they will undertake registration fee of ¥1 and 10% of the total medical expenses (temporary provision). Comprehensive Insurance for International Students
(1) Compulsory requirements on international students buying comprehensive insurance
According to the Ministry of Education, all international students who will stay in China for more than 6 months must be medically insured throughout their entire planned period of study and the insurance policy must be presented at registration, whereas it is not mandatory for international students who will stay in China for less than 6 months. For Chinese government students, the comprehensive insurance will be paid by the Ministry of Education. International Students Office of USST will assist in purchasing the said insurance for commoners and Shanghai Government Scholarship students who will pay for it.

(3) Insurance disbursement and
insurance claims
Students insured suffers from events within the scope of insurance cover should go get treatment in network hospitals as fixed by the Emergency Medical Center of the Ministry of Health of China(
http://www.lxbx.net/wlyy.html)and inform ISO as soon as possible. If hospitalization is needed, students should ask for help from ISO to arrange disbursement issue. Other medical expenses should be paid on account by the insured students, and ISO will assist in claim settlement.
Document to be presented for settlement of claims: student card, copy of passport and copy of the insurance card, originals of receipts of outpatient or hospitalization expenses, doctor’s report and
/or inpatient summary, diagnosis, medical check report, expense details, signed copy of Union bank card.
Insurance claim material should be submitted 8:30-11:30 a.m., from
