University of Shanghai for Science and Technology is an engineering-based municipal key university with multidisciplinary blend of science, management, economics and literature. It has been over one hundred years since its inception. The university originates from Shanghai College founded in 1906 and German Medical School founded in 1907. USST administers 2 types of international students scholarship offered by the Shanghai Municipal Government in an attempt to encourage excellent international students and scholars to study at USST.

I. Types of scholarship and who shall apply
Type A (full scholarship)
It is granted to excellent international students who will apply for Master/Doctor degree program in USST
Type B (partial scholarship）
It is granted to excellent international students who will apply for Bachelor/Master/Doctor degree program in USST
II. The scholarship contains:
Type A (full scholarship)
Students who are granted the type A scholarship will be exempt from tuition, International Students Apartment Fees and comprehensive medical insurances.
Type B (partial scholarship）
Students who are granted the type B scholarship will be exempt from tuition and comprehensive medical insurances.
III. Prerequisites of the applicants
1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health
2. Applicants pursuing Bachelor’s degree shall hold High School degree diploma or the equivalent and should be under the age of 25. In addition, the applicant can only apply for Type B scholarship.
Applicants pursuing Master’s degree should hold Bachelor degree diploma or the equivalent and should not be over the age of 35.
Applicants pursuing Doctor’s degree should hold Master degree diploma or the equivalent and should not be over the age of 40.
3. The applicants should have excellent academic records.
4. The applicants can not apply for any other Chinese government scholarship at the same time or nominated by any types of CSC Scholarship(Type A or Type B).
5. Those overseas applicants who were nationals of the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan must have held the valid foreign passport or certificate of nationality for at least four years, and over two years (nine-month actual residence in foreign countries within one year can be calculated as one year, subject to the entry and exit date) of the actual abroad residence record within the last four years.
IV. When to apply and how to apply,application fees
Type A (full scholarship)
Application of type A will be processed by the university from March 1, 2019 to the end of April, 2019.
Please go to http://study.edu.sh.gov.cn and apply online. Choose “UNIVERSITY OF SHANGHAI FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY” as your desired school.
List of Application material for easy reference:
1. Application Form for Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) Class A，filled in Chinese or English
2. Notarized copies and Chinese or English translations of your highest education certificate, including graduation and degree certificates. Verification letter from school or employer should be provided if the applicants are students or employed. Those who submitted pre-graduation certificate/Estimated Graduate Proof will be required to provide original graudation certificate on registration day （http://iso.usst.edu.cn/2019/0225/c1214a134863/page.htm ）.
3. Notarized official transcripts of study records in Chinese or English. Chinese or English translations of the transcripts should be notarized too.
4. Study Plan in China in Chinese or English；
5. Letter of Recommendation in Chinese or English from two professors or associate professors from the institution where the applicants have completed or will complete study program；
6. Copy of Chinese language proficiency test result of new HSK 4 （220）or above (for students will take programs taught in Chinese only);
7. Students who apply for art programs should provide their works;
8. Copy of valid passport if available.

Type B (partial scholarship）
Application of type B will be processed by the university from March 1, 2019 to Jun 15th, 2019.

V. Processing and Final Results
Final results of the scholarship evaluation process will be publicly notified in each July and November and an official certificate will be issued to each winner.
VI. About Visa for Study in China and Registration Formalities of Scholarship Winner
1. Visa for study in China
The winners of Scholarship type A and type B who directly come to Shanghai from abroad should apply for the student visa (for students who will study for over 6 months, “X” visa should be applied) to the Chinese embassy or consulate in their country with original and copy of Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China (JW202), Foreigner Physical Examination Form, Scholarship Award Notice and valid passport.
2. Registration
If any scholarship winner fails to register within the time limit without the permission of the institution, he/she will be regarded as giving up the admission and the scholarship.
3. Health certificate and residence permit
Students with scholarship should bring along Foreigner Physical Examination Form and go to the Shanghai Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau International Travel Health Center for verification. If they do not have health verification from the center, they should take physical examination till they receive a Health Certificate from the said center. Anyone who refuse the physical examination or enter China with certain diseases that will be rejected as regulated by the Chinese laws and regulations will be requested to leave China within limited days and the scholarship will be canceled accordingly. The relevant expense is on the said students. The lodging and living allowance funds from Scholarship A will be stopped from that month.
Students with scholarship should apply for the Residence Permit to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station within 30 days from the date they enter China.
Please go through all the procedures of registration to the institution and apply within thirty days of arrival for the residency permit to the local police authority.
Please make health check reservation at least one month before your arrival in Shanghai （website for reservation:http://sithc.shciq.gov.cn/MEC/login）and reservation is not necessary for students as followed:
a. holding a valid residence permit

Aviso sobre la solicitud de Beca del Gobierno para estudiantes internacionales de Shanghái del año académico 2018/2019
I. Categoría de becas y solicitantes
Las Becas del Gobierno para estudiantes internacionales de Shanghái consisten en 2 categorías: Categoría A y Categoría B.
1. Categoría A (Beca completa)
Estudiantes internacionales sobresalientes que solicitan a recibir educación de posgrado en la Universidad de Shanghái para Ciencia y Tecnología.
2. Categoría B (Beca parcial)
Estudiantes internacionales sobresalientes que solicitan a recibir educación de licenciatura o posgrado en la Universidad de Shanghái para Ciencia y Tecnología.
II. Criterio de financiación de becas
1. Categoría A (Beca completa):
Matrícula (materiales de enseñanza no incluidos), alojamiento, seguros médicos integrales, gastos de vida mensuales.
2. Categoría B (Beca parcial):
Matrícula (materiales de enseñanza no incluidos), seguros médicos integrales. Otros gastos corren por la propia cuenta de los solicitantes.
III. Condiciones de solicitud de becas
1. Ciudadano de nacionalidad extranjera, con buena salud.
2. Requisitos de grado académico y edad del solicitante:
Solicitantes de licenciatura deben ser graduados de bachillerato, en principio no mayores de 25 años de edad (sólo aptos para solicitar beca de Categoría B o C);
Solicitantes de maestría deben obtener título de licenciatura, en principio no mayores de 35 años de edad; solicitantes de doctorado deben obtener título de maestría, en principio no mayores de 40 años.
3. Excelentes calificaciones académicos con alta capacidad académica.
4. El solicitante al mismo tiempo no debe haber obtenido cualquier otra beca por parte del gobierno chino.
5. Solicitantes de origen chino continental, de Hong Kong, de Macao, o de Taiwán, que se hayan emigrado al exterior y soliciten la beca como estudiantes internacionales, deben haber obtenido pasaporte extranjero o certificado de nacionalidad válidos por 4 (CUATRO) años o más, y registro de residencia real de 2(DOS) años o más en el extranjero (se considera UN AÑO en el que haya cumplido 9 MESES viviendo en el exterior, para lo cual prevalecen los sellos de entrada y salida del territorio) durante los últimos cuatro años (hasta el 1 de marzo del 2019).
6. Cumplen los requisitos detallados de las condiciones de solicitud.
IV. La solicitud de beca y cuota de inscripción
1): Categoría A: plazo de solicitud desde el 1 de marzo hasta el 15 de junio del año corriente.
Acceda a la siguiente página para completar la solicitud en línea de las becas:
Elija “La Universidad de Shanghái para Ciencia y Tecnología” como entidad de estudio.
El solicitante debe entregar vía internet los siguientes materiales:
1. “Formulario de Solicitud para Beca de Categoría A” rellenado con chino o inglés, entregado en línea a http://study.edu.sh.gov.cn e impreso;
2. Certificado de máximo grado académico notariado. En vez de ser estudiante vigente, el solicitante debe entregar aparte el certificado de matrícula emitido por la escuela. Para textos no escritos en chino o inglés, debe anexar la traducción a chino o inglés correspondiente notariada. El que haya entregado “Certificado de graduación esperada” al inscribirse debe entregar el original del certificado de graduación para justificarse al matricularse y presenciarse a la universidad;
3. Calificaciones. Para textos no escritos en chino o inglés, debe anexar la traducción a chino o inglés correspondiente notariada;
4. Plan de estudio e investigación en China, escrito en chino o inglés;
5. Copia del Certificado de Examen de Aptitud de Chino nivel HSK5 o encima (excepto en el caso de los cursos dados en inglés);
6. Carta de recomendación de dos profesores o profesores asociados de la entidad académica donde graduarse, escrita en chino o inglés;
7. Solicitantes menores de 18 años de edad deben entregar la Garantía de guardián. (En caso de que los progenitores del solicitante no se encuentren en el territorio chino, hace falta que ellos apoderen a un extranjero residente habitual en el territorio chino o un chino como guardián.)
8. Estudiantes de maestría y doctorado: “Carta de recepción del tutor”.
Materiales mencionados no se le devolverán al solicitante.
