In order to further cultivate a platform for open collaboration, cultural exchange, and interaction among Chinese and international students and faculty, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) has adopted the model of Sino-foreign cooperative education as a robust foundation for a series of cross-cultural educational initiatives. Beginning in mid-November, we have successfully organized three dynamic Hello World cross-cultural sharing salon events, which have garnered enthusiastic participation from over two hundred Chinese and international students and faculty members. These events featured academic instructors from the Sino-British College (SBC), who presented a rich array of diverse topics encompassing the history, culture, landscapes, arts, cuisine, and customs of various global regions.

Delving into Western culinary arts while valuing the rich cultural heritage of Serbia.
Gordana Stanojevic, an academic English lecturer from Serbia, presented on the theme Serbia: Outstanding Cuisine and Entertainment Hub, using the distinctive culinary offerings of her hometown as a starting point to introduce the traditional festivals and customs of Serbia in an accessible manner. From authentic musical styles to inviting all students to dance along with the melodies of a Gypsy band, Professor Stanojevic led everyone in experiencing the unique cultural charm of this distant country firsthand. Additionally, she skillfully compared and analyzed the similarities and differences between Chinese and Serbian culinary traditions and folk customs, enabling students to gain a more intuitive understanding and appreciation of the unique allure of different cultures.

Challenging Stereotypes: Investigating the Varied Allure of Germany.
Christian Goettker, a lecturer in business administration from Germany, led an engaging session titled Beyond the Stereotypes: Discovering Modern Germany - Innovation, Celebration, and Green Visions. He introduced participants to a vibrant and creative modern Germany, gradually reshaping their traditional perceptions of Germans as serious and stiff. Through stunning visuals of Germany's natural landscapes, the unique charm of the German language, and cultural elements such as local carnivals and music festivals, he showcased the country's rich diversity. With his witty and humorous style, Christian created an atmosphere filled with laughter and joy. He also invited students to experience traditional German customs firsthand, such as coming on stage to cut ties and tossing candies into the audience, providing participants with a unique audiovisual experience that allowed them to rediscover a modern Germany that is diverse, open, and dynamic.

Ajaya Shakya, a lecturer specializing in exhibition economy and management from Nepal, presented a captivating session titled Nepal: A Tapestry of Culture, Nature, and Heritage to the students. He showcased the stunning natural landscapes and unique cultural characteristics of Nepal. His comprehensive presentation covered the geographical environment, ethnic composition, traditional festivals, and breathtaking natural scenery of the country. Additionally, he enthusiastically shared insights into the rich and diverse culinary culture of the region, allowing the audience to experience the extraordinary allure of this mysterious nation. While discussing Nepal's distinctive ethnic music, Professor Shakya invited all attendees to stand and dance along with the enchanting melodies, elevating the atmosphere to a peak of excitement.

The introduction of the Hello World cross-cultural series salon has significantly expanded the global outlook of students at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) while enhancing their comprehension and appreciation of multiculturalism on a global scale. Moving forward, USST will persist in incorporating cross-cultural education and exchange into our academic initiatives, establishing a robust foundation for developing international professionals equipped with cross-cultural communication abilities and global competencies.
