Application Guide to Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students

In order to further the development of international students education and attract more outstanding prospective international students to study in Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal(hereinafter referred to Scholarship)since 2005.It is established to fund distinctive prospective international students to pursue bachelor’s or above degree levels at higher educational institutions in Shanghai.

1.     Categories, Details and Eligibility

1.       Categories and Details

Shanghai Government Scholarship for International Students is divided into Class A, Class B and Class C.

Class A (Full Scholarship) is established to fund excellent prospective students applying for postgraduate programs in Shanghai. The scholarship will fund the recipients to cover their full tuition, living expenses and Comprehensive Medical Insurance Students in China during their study period.

Class B (Partial Scholarship) is established to fund excellent prospective students applying for undergraduate or above leveled degree programs in Shanghai. The scholarship will fund the recipients to cover their full tuition during their study period, while the living expenses and Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students in China will be funded by the recipients themselves.

Class C (Excellent Student Award) is established to encourage the currently enrolled excellent international students who are pursuing long-term study at higher educational institutions in Shanghai. The recipients will receive a one-off scholarship in an academic year.

 

2.       Eligibility

(1)    Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

(2)    Educational Background and Age Limit

-Applicants of bachelor’s programs must have graduated from senior high school and under the age of 25.

-Applicants of master’s programs must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.

-Applicants of doctoral programs must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.

(3) Outstanding in academic performance.

(4) Meeting the language requirement of the prospective degree program.

(5) Meeting the entry requirements of the applied university and program.

(6) Not being awarded any other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.

 

2. Application and Review

Shanghai Municipal Education Commission has appointed the higher educational institutions of Shanghai Government Scholarship to deal with scholarship application, review, admission and education of international students. One can contact the appointed university directly, requesting application form and the relevant application materials. Applicants should send all the application documents to the university before the application deadline. The university will check the application materials submitted by applicants. Those who do not meet the application qualifications or have not submitted complete application materials will be considered as invalid applications and not be processed. Applications which have met the qualifications will be under review.

 

University Review Committee on Scholarship for International Students will review the application packages of qualified applicants according to the Detailed Rules on the Review of Scholarship. The university will send a written notice with the final decision to the applicants within 2 months after the application deadline. The university will send out Admission Notice and Notification to Scholarship Recipients. The recipients are not permitted to change their institutions, specialties or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice. Otherwise, it will be regarded as abandonment of the scholarship.

 

The university will guide the scholarship recipients with visa application, registration and other relevant procedures.
