School of Optical-Electrical and Computer Engineering, the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai, China

Overview:

The Centre for Artificial Intelligence Nanophotonics (CAIN) is a newly established institution in the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology that aspires to be a world-class research institution dedicated to investigations of optical-driven and nanophotonic for a smarter, greener and safer future. The Ph.D. positions will be supervised by the CAIN director, Prof Min Gu, and his team. Professor Gu is a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering,  recognized as one of the international authorities and pioneers of the three-dimensional optical imaging theory (more than 500 papers including Nature, Science and Nature Photonics).

Position Description:

CAIN has an exceptional multi-disciplinary team of optical physicists with expertise in optical nanofabrication and material scientists and industry partners. The Ph.D. projects will focus on the design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of nanophotonic systems. The Ph.D. candidates will be provided with a stimulating and highly collaborative research environment embedded in a network of local, national, and international collaborations and a competitive stipend (above $20K USD/yr, 3 years).

Desired qualification and skills:

*Excellent master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: physics, photonics, material science, or similar fields.

*Practical experience with experiments in either free-space optics, integrated photonics, or chemistry.

*Solid fundamental knowledge of one of the following disciplines: optics, integrated photonics, laser fabrication, solar cells.

*Ability to work independently as a researcher and effectively in a diverse multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
