Who shall apply for Residence Permit?

students who hold a study “X” visa

students who hold visiting “F” will stay in China for over 6 months

students entering China with other types of visa

How to apply (3 steps)?

n          Medical Examination

New students who have their Health Certificate issued by another body must have it verified by the Shanghai Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau International Travel Health Center.

Students whose Health Certificate receives verification from the Bureau will be issued with the Bureau’s Health Certificate.

Students with Health Certificate that does not receive approval or verification from the Bureau will have to complete a medical examination offered by the Bureau in order to obtain its Health Certificate.

- students should bring with themselves at the verification and medical examination with the following materials:

1.        admission notice

2.         passport original+copy

3.         three 2-inch passport sized photo

4.        full sets of medical examination report(Health Certificate) to be verified if the medical examination is conducted 6 months

5.         medical examination fee of RMB500/person or verification fee of RMB80-500/person

6.        reservation should be made for medical examination or the verification

n          Accomodation Registration

International Students who live off campus should register in local police station within 24 hours after living in local resident's home. Anybody who does not register within three days will be fined.

When international students sign a contract with the landlord, it is a must that the landlord should provide a security license for the apartment. Renting behavior without a security license will be fined.

n          Apply for the Original Residence Permit

The students should apply for the Residence Permit to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station with:

The address of the said bureau:No.1500, Mingsheng Rd, Pudong New District, Shanghai

              1. original passport and valid visa

              2.  Visa and Residence Permit Application Form (1 passport sized photo)

              3.  Admission Notice (original and copy)

              4.  The third copy of JW201(202) form

              5.  Temporary Residence Registration Form (original for review and copy to be turned in)

              6.  original Health Report by SITHC

              7.  original Application Form issued by USST

              8.  application fee of 400 RMB in cash

2. Residence Permit Expiration Date

The validity of your Resedence Permit must not exceed the expiration date of your passport.

3.Changing your Residence Permit

Whenever there are changes made to your address, passport number and current school of study, students are to apply for changing the Resedence Permit.

The students will have to collect relevant application form from the ISO and go to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station to apply with other relevant documents.

4. Residence Permit Extension

Students who wish to remain in China after the expiry date of your current Residence Permit should apply for a Residence Permit extension one month before your current Residence Permit expires, or you will be considered as an illegal resident and face persecution charges by the Chinese Law.

The students will have to collect relevant application form from the ISO and go to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station to apply with other relevant documents.

The students should apply for the Residence Permit Extension to the Exit-Entry Bureau of Shanghai Police Station with:

     1.  original passport and valid visa

     2. Visa and Residence Permit Application Form (1 passport sized photo)

     3. Temporary Residence Registration Form (original for review and copy to be turned in)

     4. original Application Form issued by USST

     5. application fee of 400 RMB in cash

     6. Under the circumstances that the applicant applies for residence permit 3 months after last residence permit expires or, at the time the applicant applied for the last residence permit, he/she was under 18, original Health Report by SITHC is required.
